New owner hopes community will help keep Shadow Mountain Golf Club alive

For as much as Lindi Biggi loves Shadow Mountain Golf Club in Palm Desert, and for as much money as she plans on investing in the course over the next two years, she knows she can’t turn around the fortunes of the golf course alone.

“I just believe in the community,” said Biggi, who along with her two children bought Shadow Mountain this month. “I think the community will want to keep this golf course alive and well. I can’t do it alone, that is for sure. If they don’t join me. I will sink.”

Biggi closed escrow earlier in August — with those papers listing a $1.7 million purchase price — on the golf course, which has teetered on the edge of closure for the last few years.

The Community Effort Behind No-Kill Animal Shelters in the Coachella Valley

The Coachella Valley has no shortage of people willing to save animals. The larger problem is preventing so many dogs and cats from needing rescue in the first place. Reducing that pressure means curbing unwanted litters, making veterinary care more affordable, and finding enough adopters and foster homes for the animals already entering local shelters.

For Lindi Biggi, founder of Loving All Animals, the challenge is difficult but far from unsolvable. “There are so many problems on this planet that we don’t know how to solve,” she says. “This one, we do.”

Across the valley, shelters, nonprofits, veterinarians, and residents are putting that conviction into practice. The goal is simple: no-kill animal shelters. The path forward is clear: daily low-cost sterilizations, trap-neuter-return programs for community cats, and broader access to affordable pet care. Some in the Coachella Valley believe it’s possible — and more than that, they’re proving it.
